Maybe one can afford such a site after creating their true fans.

With this site one will spend more time solving client’s problems instead of focusing on getting traffic to their website.

To be honest their site just tells me they didn’t want to spend more than 10 minutes to actually put up something. I never understood this “minimalism”. Ok, it’s cool sometimes, but we’re in the era of huge bandwidth connections and full colour screens. No more VGA, no more “web safe” colours.

And instead of thinking about some creative way to display their skills, they put up the page that didn’t take more than those 10 minutes to make.

OK, I agree my designs are sometimes “too heavy”, but I do try to provide my clients with something that look better than a 5 minute coded page.

I assume the work comes from referrals. I wouldn’t hire them based on that page ever. I like to see in the portfolio “some” of their skills, so that I can get an idea. And no, I wouldn’t like anyone to make me a “minimalist” site. I find them ugly, even if simplicity should be fine. If it’s too simple, I don’t see why I am paying thousands for something that doesn’t take more than minutes to make.

If I gave one of my clients something like that, I assume they’d shoot me too, not only get their business from me

@Jonathan: You’re right. There’s more to Oak’s marketing than their site. I’ve noticed they’re often credited in the footers of sites they’ve worked on. Sort of like, Designed by Oak, which clicks through to this site. The beauty here is that it doesn’t clog up or undermine or confuse anything. Nothing to get in the way of a contact. No extraneous obstacles. No needless chatter.

Nice post. I want to add that many times clients are gained through word of mouth. A website is important but I suspect the simple nature of their site isn’t what really gets them business, in this case I’d think it works more like simply providing contact info because someone told them they should use Oak Studios.
